YOUR VOTE MATTERS – CAST YOUR VOTE
AN APPEAL
AN APPEAL
In compliance with the appeal of the Election Commissioner of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Dr.Rajat Kumar, IAS, Telangana. I hereby urge to all the Faculty, Non-Teaching, Research Scholars, Staff and Students to cast their vote without fail, encourage others to participate in the electoral process and ensure an increase in the polling percentage.
Suffrage is the right to vote. It is also known as enfranchisement. When the right of suffrage is extended to all members of society, a domino effect occurs socially, politically, and economically. Socially, it allows for a greater marketplace of ideas and the government must become more responsive to the needs of the constituency (represented population). Ideologically, this allows an expansion of democracy. Politically, it permits all members of society not only to vote for representatives but to consider running for office themselves; which is also an expansion of democracy. It also forces the politician to listen more effectively to his/her constituency to earn their votes and be held accountable for their legislative actions. Lastly, economic results could occur because policy decisions will affect government taxation, appropriations, and spending.
Voting is a basic process that keeps a nation’s governmental system work. It enables the citizens to choose their own government. It also allows the people to choose their representatives in the government. The purpose of every government is to develop and implement various policies for the benefit of its citizens.
It also enables the person with the right to question the government about issues and clarifications. Voting is the way to express the opinion of a citizen in a democratic nation. Voting is crucial to activating the democratic process. It is the right, benefit and obligation to vote as a citizen of your nation and an individual from your society. Individuals may figure that their vote does not make a difference, but rather votes can shape remote monetary and social arrangements.
I urge all the students, teaching and non-teaching staff to cast their vote, participate in the electoral process in large numbers and help increase the voting percentage
Exercising the right to vote is crucial to the democratic process and strengthening the foundations of democracy. As a citizen of India it is incumbent on each person to exercise the right to choose law makers.
Osmania students played a pivotal role in the formation of the new state of Telangana. Osmania shares a glorious legacy of participating in the political processes. Students are mature, have in depth insights into issues, definite and a sharp vision not only for the State but also for their own future. One should not fall prey to vested interests, but cast votes without any fear as “ Our vote decides our future.”
The Election Commission of India has selected ‘Accessible Elections’ as the central theme of year 2018. while seamlessly integrating with the underlying philosophy of universal adult suffrage and the concept of ‘No Voter to be Left Behind’, the theme renders a perfect blend of inclusion and the consequent everlasting determination and endeavour for strengthening the democracy in India. It has taken sustained steps to register all eligible citizens as voters and facilitate them to vote at the time of election. To uphold the sanctity of free and fair elections, the Commission has paid special attention to the inclusion of persons with disability and instructed for many provisions such as ramps at the polling stations, out of turn voting and need based companion for PwDs, engraving braille font on EVMs, braille ballot paper, and so on. Use the Election Commission’s c-VIGIL app to file complaints of model code violations.
