JNTUH Proposal for observance of “Handloom Day” Every Saturday - Instructions
JNTU-Hyderabad ( JNTUH ) In an effort to promote Indian traditions and support the handloom weaving community, it is proposed to observe every Saturday as "Handloom Day" in the University. On this day, all teaching and non-teaching staff are encouraged to wear traditional Indian handloom garments while discharging their duties.
This initiative is aimed at creating awareness about the cultural and economic importance of handloom products and to honour India's rich textile heritage. It also serves as a means to support the livelihood of handloom weavers by increasing awareness and usage of their handmade products. Additionally, handloom clothing promotes eco-friendly and sustainable practices, thereby encouraging responsible consumption.
In view of the above, all Principals/Directors of the Constituent Colleges and Heads of Units are hereby instructed to disseminate this information to all teaching and non-teaching staff of the constituent and affiliated colleges of the University, including Assistant Professors (Contract) and outsourcing staff.
All are requested to participate actively in this initiative by wearing handloom attire every Saturday, thereby contributing meaningfully to the preservation of our cultural heritage and the support of the weaving community.
