JNTUH Credit Requirements for the Students Studied under Two Different Regulations

JNTU-Hyderabad ( JNTUH ) Credit Requirements for the Students Studied under Two Different Regulations

JNTU-Hyderabad ( JNTUH ) ORDER: Vide the ref. (1) cited, the University constituted a committee to discuss and examine the issue of Credit requirements for students who are detained and subsequently re-admitted into successive academic regulations. The committee met on 25-08-2026 in the Rector Office, JNTUH, and deliberated on the matter.

The committee submitted the following recommendations:
1. When a student has studied some semesters under one academic regulations and the remaining semesters under the successive academic regulations, and the credit requirements for the award of the degree are different under the two regulations, the total credits required for the award of the degree shall not be less than the minimum number of credits prescribed for the award of the degree under either of the two regulations.

2. The college must apply to DAP seeking the student specific orders of the substitute subjects / additional subjects that the student needs to study when the student readmitted into successive regulations or transferred to your college from some other college.

3. If the student passes all the courses of all semesters prescribed under all the regulations including the substitute / additional subject(s) as recommended by the DAP upon request from the concerned Principal of college and student acquires all the credits, then the student becomes eligible for the degree. While suggesting substitute subjects, if it is found that there is a shortage of one or two credits, a course titled 'comprehensive viva exam' may be conducted with two credits weightage and included this assessment grade in IV-II semester grade memo.

4. If a detained and readmitted student registers for additional courses, as recommended by the University, and earns more credits than the other students in the same section upon completion of the TV-II semester, such a student shall be required to pass all the core courses and earn the requisite number of credits from elective courses so that the total credits earned over all four years are not less than the minimum number of credits prescribed under the respective Regulation. The clauses (1), (2), (3), and (4) mentioned above shall be read collectively and not in isolation for determining the eligibility of a student for the award of the degree.

5. If a student detained, promoted and joined in the successive batches and both the academic years (academic years of detention and rejoining) belong to the same Regulations, for such students, the colleges need not apply for the substitute subjects / additional subjects.

6. If a student has completed all the prescribed years of study but has a few backlogs and becomes eligible for the award of the degree by availing the applicable provisions of grace marks and/or credit exemption, such student shall be eligible to receive the Degree Certificate.

7. If the provisions relating to credit exemption and grace marks differ between the two successive Regulations, the Regulation under which the student has studied the majority of the semesters shall be applicable for the purpose of determining the eligibility for grace marks and /or credit exemption, and the provisions of that regulation shall be applied in their entirety.

If the student has studied an equal number of semesters under both regulations, the student shall be permitted to avail the provisions relating to grace marks and/or credit exemption under the regulation that is more beneficial to the student. In such cases, the provisions of the selected regulation shall be applied in their entirety.

Vide ref (2) cited, the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor is pleased to accord approval for the above recommendations which are meant for detained and subsequently re-admitted students into successive academic regulations.
