INTRODUCTION TO GUIDELINES : After studying all the courses in this programme, you must have understood the importance of research-related knowledge for any media professional. To be successful, media professionals should know the social, economic, psychological background and information needs of their target audience. For example, this knowledge helps a newspaper editor or television channel editor to tailor content to suit the needs and tastes of the target audience. Similarly, if you recall, research inputs are essential in every stage of the public relations process. For example, to understand the publics’ attitudes, their opinion about the organisation, their background, how are media covering the organisation, how different publics are thinking about organisation, and what is the impact of the new campaign public relations professionals need to research-based information. We can go on to list how research is used in the media-related Industry. In the advertising field also a great deal of research goes into consumer research, market research, copy research, impact research and the list can go on. Similarly, to plan and assess the impact of development projects and the role of communication in various spheres of society, we need research. With the rise of social media and convergence media, every sphere of life needs research. Keeping the crucial role of research in everyday life and communication-related fields, this course Project Report and Viva Voce is made part of the programme.
